Here's the scene, when photography lived in a darkroom, the
wellspring of ideas and techniques was absolute. We
shared our tips, our tricks and our criticisms. Everyone
benefited from the accumulation of knowledge.
Since the advent of digital photography,
things have changed; we click our photos, go back to
our computers and edit them as best we can. Our images
would only be as good as our skills; we're limited by
our own ability and knowledge. Get the picture?
At Illuminate Workshops, we thought,
'how can we get that same sense of community back into
digital photography?' How can we get the sharing of
ideas, techniques and knowledge to spread across the
Denver photographic community?
Well, we started with our free monthly
Night
Photowalks and they've been a hit. People
have enjoyed traveling in the safety of a group, taking
photos at night of Denver and the surrounding areas.
It's been so popular that we get constant emails asking,
"when's the next Night Photowalk"?
In April 2010 we started hosting a free Community
Critique for anyone who wants to attend. The
Community Critique is meant to help you share your photographic
work with a group of professionals and novices alike,
in an effort to hone your creative eye and improve your
photographics skills. This first Critique was a wonderful
success and we thank our Photoshop instructor Armando
Martinez for the idea.
How does the Community Critique work?
Well, anyone of any skill level is invited to attend,
bring your best or worst photos and come prepared for
some honest, constructive criticism. Any egos can be
checked at the door, this is an opportunity to not only
grow as an artist, but to help others grow as well,
at the very least you'll come away with new and interesting
perspectives; at the most you may achieve Enlightenment
through the service of others.
